Western Monastic Support

Monastics at the Phowa Retreat
We are very happy to announce that a fund has been established to support Adzom Rinpoche's Western ordained Sangha who have gathered in Crestone. The institution of ordained Sangha was established by Shakyamuni Buddha as the primary means for the Dharma to last for a long time. In his system of ordination, some people in the society make their entire lives full-time practice, and the general population supports them. This interdependence benefits not only the monks and nuns and general society, but also the donors.
White Jewel Mountain has embarked on a project to build a retreat center suitable to host teachers and retreat masters from Tibet. The center will include a monastery, hospice services, temple-meditation hall and cremation stupa on our 48 acres of gently sloping pinyon-juniper woodland. While we work to establish this monastery, ordained nuns have already moved to Crestone to particpate. They truly are pioneers with hardly any of the support they would find in established Buddhist cultures. One has a live-in job; one has 3 jobs and lives in a garage; one is staying in an unfinished house to take a brief break from winter camping on the land; one has moved to a city to make money and attend nursing school better help with our future hospice services.
To help the nuns become full time practitioners, we have established that this monastic support fund be used to assist them with retreat, training, and development of community. Development of community could include a stable group living situation or capitalizing a sustainable cottage industry. Of course we'll include ordained monks, but do not yet have any in our local Sangha.
In any case, we need continuing and somewhat predictable amounts donated to successfully administer this fund over a period of time. We invite you to donate to our Western Monastics' Support Fund whatever amount is feasible for you, as one-time, monthly, or quarterly tax-deductible donation.
