Receiving blessings at Dorje Trollo empowerment, Crestone, Dec 2006
Adzom Rinpoche's 2007-08 Retreat
The Whispered Teachings of Dorje Trollo
December 12-14, 2007
We are very happy to announce the next teaching visit of Adzom Rinpoche to Crestone, CO, December 12-14, 2007.
He will be traveling with his sister, Jetsun Kacho Wangmo, and cousin, Tulku Gyurme Tsering, both great lamas in their own right. Biographies and pictures of all three lamas are in the Biography section of this website.
Updates and additional details will be posted here occasionally. Last minute announcements will be emailed.
We will be the first stop on Rinpoche’s 2007-08 winter tour. He is forecast to arrive in Denver Dec. 12. If you are in the Denver area, you will be able to meet him at the airport. Make sure you are signed up on our email list to get the last minute logistical information.
We will begin Wed, Dec 12, with a Dorje Trolo drubcho, an intensive practice, while we encourage Rinpoche to rest from his transoceanic trip. Thursday evening celebrates his arrival with a public evening program. A Friday morning teaching will follow (see schedule below).
DRUBCHO practice sessions:
Wed, Dec 12, 10 am, 3 pm, and 7 pm
Thurs, Dec 13, 10 am and 3 pm
$20 donation is requested for tsok (practice with food offering). We will shop in advance, and offer one tsok each day.
These and subsequent session times are subject to change according to Rinpoche’s wishes. Another factor is that Rinpoche’s tour of progress on our land grant may be scheduled with enough notice to invite everyone along.
PUBLIC PROGRAM Thurs, 7 pm, Dec 13
"Spontaneous Wisdom Teachings from the Heart"Donations greatly appreciated.
The meaning of the program title is that as a realized master, Adzom Rinpoche is fully able to assess the needs of those who come for his Teaching. We leave it to him to decide his teaching topic, appropriate for the entire Crestone community and its numerous long-time practitioners.
TEACHING Friday, 10 am, Dec 14
“Ongoing Teachings of Dorje Trolo”
Donation of $25 goes to our portion of the Lamas’ and translators’ travel expenses, and then as an offering to Rinpoche.
Adzom Rinpoche has given Dorje Trolo teachings and an empowerment for the practice at each of his last 4 annual visits to Crestone. He has said that he will continue these teachings. He may choose to give the Dorje Trolo empowerment a fifth time, either publicly or to a small group. If you have not yet received this empowerment, and would like to request it, please contact us (details below).
SEM TRI: Individual mind training is unlikely to fit into Rinpoche’s schedule at this tour stop. If it does, priority will be given to those who have completed more than half their Ngondro [any lineage], and who are not attending other retreats with him this winter.
LOCATION: All programs will be in a private home at #1 Moonlight Overlook. From Camino Baca Grande by the fire station, west on Moonlight Overlook all the way down the hill.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY:
In the past, Rinpoche has missed the first tour stop one out of three times. Travel conditions and other factors have improved considerably so that lateness is no longer as much of a possibility. However, to get to us, the Lamas have to travel over some of the most difficult terrain and worst roads in the world, complete business on the trip, maintain their health, and miss winter storms in Asia, the Denver airport, and the Crestone area. We sincerely invite you to join us in prayers for their long life and unobstructed journey for the few weeks preceding their arrival in the US.
This retreat has been kept as simple as possible to allow for infinite possibilities.
We will hold the Dorje Trolo Drubcho whether or not Rinpoche is on schedule, and extend it through the morning of Dec. 14 if necessary.
On your prepaid donations, if you cancel, we will deduct 10% for processing expenses, and refund
-
90% of your tsok donation if we have not already purchased the food
90% of your teaching donation
If Rinpoche cancels, we will contact you to see if you want 90% of your donation toward teachings refunded or donated.
OUT OF TOWNERS:
From the above paragraph on cancellation, you will understand that plane reservations are at your own risk, as well as rental car and hotel reservations.
We are confident that we can email participants from Albuquerque to Boulder in time for them to drive to Crestone while Rinpoche is en route.
Our retreat combines very well with Dec 14-24 at Tara Mandala, especially if you fly into Albuquerque, rent a car and drive to both. Albuquerque-Crestone = 4.5 hours, Crestone-Tara Mandala = 3.5 hours, Tara Mandala-Albuquerque =4.5 hours.
Other airports are Alamosa, CO with commuter flights from Denver a few times per day, Denver, and Colorado Springs.
Denver and Colorado Springs airports are more prone to winter storm closures, and the drive from them to Crestone involves mountain passes.
Automobile travel is necessary. Crestone and the Baca Grande stretch about 15 miles along the base of the mountains, with the land grant near the south end, visitor services at the north end, and programs in between.

WHAT TO BRING:
Clothing for weather 0-40 degrees, probably dry and sunny with some snow on the ground
Possibly colder to -20, snow and/or wind
Indoor winter temperatures in CO are cool
STURDY SHOES or boots—the land grant has rocky areas, animal holes, and low-growing cactus, all covered by a little snow. Other outside areas are unpaved and with some of these features.
There are 3-4 restaurants, 2 food stores, and a gas station, but we recommend bringing some food items with you or gassing up in Alamosa or Salida. This will minimize your worldly expeditions when you really came to practice.
Specialized sitting cushions if you need them. We will provide floor cushions and chairs.
The room may get too full for individual practice tables, but you’re welcome to start with one.
