Tulku Gyurme Tsering
Tulku Gyume Tsering, born in 1978, is a great incarnate Lama in his own right: Nyima Rinpoche, head of the Nyima Monastery in Tibet. He very seldom lets on to his high-ranking position, however, always being Adzom Rinpoche’s able and tireless assistant. For years he has recorded Rinpoche’s activity and teachings through still and video photography, written recording of spontaneously uttered poetry (doha), and production of CDs, DVDs, and a book, Earth Thunder. When in the US he is often up all night with phone calls, film editing, translations, and the like.
Occasionally during Adzom Rinpoche’s teaching tours, we are blessed with Tulku Gyurme Tsering’s leadership of practice sessions, feel his heartfelt compassion at the suffering of others, or hear a brief but very moving teaching. He will not sit on a throne. A few times over the years of US visits, he has performed ritual (called Lama or Cham) dancing. His eyes and radiant presence grow huge, and he takes over the dance area totally becoming the deity he depicts. In Tibet at Rinpoche’s annual Gesar sacred dance performance, Gyurme Tsering Rinpoche plays the lead role of Gesar.
Adzom Rinpoche has referred to Tulku Gyurme Tsering and Jetsunma as his left and right arms, and said he cannot accomplish his work without them. To us they are both embodiments of selfless and tireless service, done quietly with great humility and dedication.
